Using Sound and Light to Heal Cancer

Conventional doctors have been using the properties of light and sound to treat various ailments for over 100 years.  Full-spectrum lighting has been helpful in treating depression from Seasonal Affective Disorder.

Various sound frequencies have been shown to promote relaxation, reduce pain, and accelerate healing. Did you know sound and light therapy can also play a role in treating cancer?

Since the 1940’s, physical and occupational therapists have used ultrasound frequency for treating disorders and injuries of connective tissue, ligaments, and tendons. Since the 1960’s, ultrasound waves have been used to view a developing baby in utero, to check for reproductive system abnormalities like uterine fibroids, and to help screen for breast cancer. In recent years, forward-thinking doctors have been using sound and light as safe cancer-healing alternatives.

Light and Sound Therapy for Cancer

In the 1980’s, western medicine began using light to “treat” cancer, and in the 1990s, scientists in Russia, Poland and China began to advance its use clinically. Called Photodynamic Therapy, or PDT, the procedure uses drugs that are injected into the bloodstream as photosensitizing agents. The drugs, typically Photofrin® (porfimer sodium), remain inert until they are exposed to particular kinds of light waves. When exposed, the agents form a type of oxygen that kills any cells it comes into contact with. According to the National Cancer Institute, conventional PDT is used to treat mostly esophageal and non-small cell lung cancer. It is also used to treat tumors that are just under the skin or are on the lining of the internal organs or cavities. It cannot be used to treat cancers that have metastasized.

While conventional medicine still utilizes light therapy in ways that can carry many side effects and risks, holistic doctors have adapted the western use of PDT by combining both light and sound to create Sono-Photo Dynamic Therapy (SPDT). SPDT provides a safe, non-invasive healing modality for all forms of cancer, even those that have spread to other parts of the body.

The main difference between PDT and SPDT (besides the added use of sound waves) is in the agents used and how they are administered. In contrast to the use of toxic agents such as Photofrin® for conventional PDT treatment, alternative doctors like Dr. Tony Jiminez of the Hope4Cancer Institute in Playas de Tijuana, Mexico, administer a natural, non-toxic chlorophyll substance under the tongue. Within twenty-four hours, this substance is naturally purged from all cells except cancer cells.

Specific sound frequencies and light waves are then pulsed through the body. When these frequencies hit the chlorophyll that remains in the cancer cells, photosynthesis occurs. Oxygen explodes into the cells, and apoptosis (self-destruction) occurs almost instantaneously. Doctors like Jiminez have used this therapy in coordination with other modalities such as hyperthermia and intense detoxification protocols. Adequate hydration and detoxification are especially important in order to rid the body of all newly-killed cancer cells.

New Studies Show How SPDT Heals Breast Cancer

Two Chinese studies are giving new hope to breast cancer patients who are considering the use of SPDT.  A study published in the March 2015 edition of the medical journal Ultrason Sonochem described marked tumor shrinkage and cancer cell apoptosis in mice with the combined therapies of sound and light through SPDT.

An earlier human study done in 2009 through Southern China Normal University in Guangzhou province is even more exciting. Three patients with “pathologically proven metastatic breast carcinoma” were given SPDT treatments after being administered the chlorophyll substance Sonoflora 1. The results were impressive. According to the study researchers:

“These widely disseminated carcinomas had ultimately failed to respond to conventional therapy. A new sensitizing agent, Sonoflora 1 (SF1), was administered sublingually; then, after a 24-hour delay, patients were treated with a combination of light and ultrasound. All patients had significant partial or complete responses. SPDT is a promising new therapeutic combination for the treatment of breast cancer.”

Indeed, as more innovative doctors and holistic health practitioners fine-tune this modality, knowledge of it may be strong medicine in and of itself for those who want to live a healthy breast lifestyle.
