Here’s how:

Watch Your Weight1. Watch Your Weight

Research has shown that being overweight or obese substantially raises a person’s risk of getting endometrial (uterine), breast, prostate, and colorectal cancers. One of the most significant risks for cancer is abdominal fat. The excess weight in the waist becomes a gland in the body, secreting an unnecessary and unhealthy amount of extra hormones, like estrogen. These hormones can lead to the over-stimulation of body tissues, resulting in cancer.

2. Exercise: Stay Active

ExerciseOne of the primary reasons exercise works to lower your cancer risk is because it drives your insulin levels down, thus reducing your cancer risks.  Be physically active for at least 30 minutes each day.  Just by introducing regular activity (running, walking, swimming, bike riding etc.) into your daily routine, you lower your risk of cancer by as much as 40%.

3. Avoid Tobacco

Avoid TobaccoLung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death, and cigarette smoking causes almost all cases. Men who smoke are about 23 times more likely to develop lung cancer; women about 13 times. Even those exposed to secondhand smoke increase their risk of developing lung cancer by by as much as 30%.

4. Limit Alcohol

WineLimit the consumption of alcohol. Though there is evidence that moderate alcohol can be beneficial in preventing heart disease, if your goal is to limit cancer risk, it’s recommended you avoid alcohol completely.

5. Drink Clear Pure Water

Drink WaterMake water your drink of choice. Drink as much of it as you want since our body is 75%-80% water. Filter your tap water. You’ll reduce your exposure to known or suspected chemicals. Consumer Reports’ top picks for faucet-mounted filters: Culligan, Pur Vertical, and the Brita OPFF-100.

6. Choose a Balanced Diet

  • Balanced DietVegetable group – 3 to 5 servings each day. At least 2 servings raw.
  • Fruit group – 2 to 3 pieces (servings) each day.
  • Beef, lamb, chicken, fish (all hormone and preservative free) – 1 to 2 servings per day
  • Complex Carbohydrates – sprouted grain breads and bran cereals – 1 to 2 servings per day.
  • Fats, oils and sweets – Use sparingly.

In conclusion, cancer can be prevented if we live healthier and simpler. There are a lot of ways to prevent cancer, but starting with these small changes in your lifestyle can truly create a big difference!
