Dr. Ryke Geerd Hamer, Creator of the German New MedicineJuly 20, 2017 | Author: Susan Silberstein, PhD
A few weeks ago, another giant in the field of biological cancer therapy transitioned to the world of Spirit. On July 2nd, Dr. Ryke Geerd Hamer, originator of “The German New Medicine” passed away at his home in Sandefjord, Norway. He was an extraordinary man with a brilliant mind who turned personal tragedy into a gift for humanity. His teachings on the psychic cause of cancer (and all diseases) and how to reverse that have begun to change the face of medicine.
In the 1970’s, Dr. Hamer was a practicing physician and professor of medicine in Germany and Italy with specialties in internal medicine and oncology. As a professor at the Pedagogic Institute in Heidelberg, he taught human biology and worked for a number of years at the University Clinics of Tubingen and Heidelberg. He patented several medical inventions, including the non-traumatic Hamer-scalpel for plastic surgery (which cuts twenty times more sharply than a razor), a special bone saw (also for plastic surgery), a massage table that automatically adjusts to the contours of the body, and a device for transcutaneous serum diagnosis. Since his discovery of the German New Medicine in 1981, Dr. Hamer wrote several books on his extraordinary medical concepts, some of which have been translated into several languages. Many physicians in Europe practice his medicine, recognizing its exceptional diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities.
Origins of the German New Medicine
While practicing in Rome in August of 1978, Dr. Hamer learned that his 17-year old son Dirk had been accidentally shot while on holiday in the Mediterranean. Three months later, Dirk died. Shortly thereafter, Dr. Hamer, who had been healthy all his life, but who was utterly devastated by this catastrophe, found he had testicular cancer. His wife developed cancer as well. Suspicious about this coincidence, he began doing research on the personal histories of cancer patients to see whether they had suffered some shock, distress or trauma before their illness.
After extensive research of more than 20,000 cases, Dr. Hamer found that without exception he could trace the development of cancer to a severe emotional shock, especially one for which the person was totally unprepared. This last point is key. If we can in any way be prepared for the shocking event, we will not become ill. Remarkably, he discovered that every shock leaves a dark shadow on the brain (confirmed in every case by a brain scan) in the exact location that corresponds to the body structure manifesting the cancer. Furthermore, he found that the exact nature of the shock (or “conflict”) determined the site for the disease — in other words, he found a 100% correlation between the shadow on the brain, the location of cancer in the body, and the specific type of unresolved conflict! He later named this unexpected conflict the “Dirk Hamer Syndrome” (DHS). In what he referred to as the “Iron Rule of Cancer,” Dr. Hamer insisted that “every cancer or cancer-like disease originates with a ‘DHS’ which is a very difficult, highly acute, dramatic and isolating shock.”
Dr. Hamer also observed that diseases like cancer have two distinct phases: the “conflict/active phase” and the “healing/resolution phase.” Seeing cancer as a special biological response to an unusual situation, he found that when the shock situation is resolved, the cancer immediately stops growing and the body automatically begins to return to normalcy. Believing strongly that the present methods of dealing with cancer are “barbarous, cruel and completely unnecessary,” he began including psychotherapy as an important part of his work with cancer patients.
Hoping for verification of his results in order to benefit as many patients as possible, Dr. Hamer submitted his discovery to the University in Tubingen, Germany, as a post-doctoral thesis. Unfortunately, his work was not well received, and without testing his hypothesis, the authorities asked him to deny his findings. When he refused, his attempts to open a clinic were blocked, his licence to practice medicine was revoked, and he was even imprisoned. Although subsequently ordered by a court of law to test Dr. Hamer’s theories, no one at the University ever did. No surprise there, as many practitioners of alternative medicine have been harassed or ostracized by the medical establishment, especially as relates to cancer treatment.
A New Concept of Disease
Yet Hamer’s medical philosophy is a legacy that lives on among his followers. Wrote Dr. Hamer, “The New Medicine understands the body as a unified organism… with the psyche being the integrator of all functions of behavior and all areas of conflict” that ultimately somatize in the body. That there is a connection between the psyche and disease is neither a new discovery, nor is it Dr. Hamer’s discovery. To quote Dr. Hamer:
“Through the millennia, humanity has more or less consciously known that all diseases ultimately have a psychic origin …; it is only modern medicine that has turned our animated beings into a bag full of chemical formulas.”
Dr. Hamer explained that the allopathic approach of dividing medicine into organic medicine and psychological medicine is absurd in the eyes of a practitioner of the German New Medicine, because illness cannot be divided. The psyche, brain and body are three levels of the same organism and the course of events on them is always synchronous!
His understanding of disease directly opposes most current concepts of disease. According to Dr. Hamer, all so-called diseases have a special biological meaning. They are not meaningless mistakes of nature that we should fight, but rather very meaningful events and “intentional programs of nature.” The way to cure disease is to ask “What brought this disease about?” and “What is its biological meaning?”
Patient- Physician Partnership
Not surprisingly, Dr. Hamer had wonderfully holistic ideas about patient participation in recovery. He wrote, “Future therapies will entail very little medication but will require the patient’s understanding of the root cause of his conflict and disease. Together with his doctor, the patient will find the best resolution to his problem or the best strategy in order to avoid repeating it in the future.”
“The patient is thus the absolute ‘boss’ in the treatment … of his illness, and herein is the special aspect of the German New Medicine. The patient will no longer be ‘treated’, but will ‘treat himself’. The relationship between patient and physician will be completely re-thought and re-defined,” and the doctor of the future will be a “broadly trained, well-educated and humane medical detective” who works in partnership with his patient.
