Two Susans, One Cause: BeatCancer.org
May 18, 2016 | Author: Susan Silberstein PhDOver the years, groups of people around the country have organized simple fundraisers that have helped support our non-profit. They have included raffles of prizes donated by local business owners, sales of tee-shirts with the BeatCancer.org logo, community cycling events, and 50-50 raffles. A few weeks ago, a North Jersey group held another small fundraiser on behalf of BeatCancer.org. The model for the event was simple and effective, and I am excited to tell you about it!
I often say I never met a Susan I didn’t like. Susan Miller, of Susan Miller Health Concepts in Springfield, NJ, is no exception. Susan is a wonderful holistic practitioner, with specialties in massage, reiki, yoga, stress management, and wellness coaching. She has been huge fan of BeatCancer.org and is one of our certified holistic cancer counselors. After completing the training she wrote: “Thank you so much for a very well done course. I really learned a lot. I’ve also been working with Randi. She’s fantastic and I’ve learned a lot from her, too! I feel so grateful to have found BeatCancer — I can’t even express it adequately in words.”
On Thursday, May 5th, with the help of a few colleagues, Susan found another way to express her appreciation. She held a fundraiser for Beat Cancer.org and raised nearly $600 in donations!
It was an evening of education, empowerment and fun! Susan (www.susanmillerhealthconcepts.com) and Chiara D’agostina, a breast cancer survivor and blogger (www.beautythroughthebeast.com) spoke briefly. Maren Epstein, a Natural Gourmet Chef (www.eatingworks.com) did a live demo and made a delicious green juice in her Vitamix that everyone sampled. Susan had a display of Beat Cancer books and a Juice Plus+ display as well, and her colleague and friend, Jennifer Terrizzi, did chair massage.
As Susan elaborated, “There were quite a few women there who’d had breast cancer. We talked about prevention of recurrence and the importance of whole foods, exercise and lifestyle…. It was a celebration of life after cancer. Beautiful.”
Thank you, Susan and friends! We at BeatCancer.org hope that our other fans will follow Susan’s lead and create simple fundraising events that are educational and fun. If you would like to support us with such an event, consider doing a Hungry for Health lunch or dinner party, or some other local fundraiser.
