Dear Susan,
Thanks, thanks, thanks. It was very good to talk to you. I think your leads are just what I am looking for—to get good diet advice, etc.
Also, your insights about possible causes, etc.
Generally, a very helpful conversation.
Here’s the $100. Let me know if I can help more.
Best,
David
Thank you again for the quick response to my phone call. I have always valued your counseling and the wisdom you have passed on to me through the years. Your organization is truly a valuable asset to anyone challenged with cancer. Please accept this donation so that you may continue to teach families the importance of nutrition and living a healthy lifestyle. I'm very happy to say that my white cell counts are nearly in the normal range and I am feeling great. Abundantly blessed, Pat Silknitter
Thank you especially to Dr. Shayne, who spent hours with me on the phone to make me feel better during my ordeal. It is much appreciated and will never be forgotten.
All the best,
Monique H.
Dear Susan, I am so impressed with your knowledge and expertise, plus the generosity of your time. Your counseling and education has been astounding. You and your organization provide an invaluable service. Les too is so happy to have met you and will be compliant with perhaps all or most of your suggestions. Thanks so much for all you have done and all that you will continue to do. Warmly, Rodney Schlaffman, P.A. Elkins Park, Pennsylvania
Dear Susan: It’s been a number of years since you talked to me on the phone. In the past 18 years I have had first mastectomy followed by two lumpectomies. After the last one, almost four years ago, I had 30 radiation treatments. Although one of my nodes was positive I have been free of cancer since that time. I am very thankful for all the help that was given to me and to my husband by FACT.
Sincerely, Helen H.
To: Susan Silberstein From: Richard P. I would like to take this time to thank you all for the help you gave me during the very confusing and uncertain times. I am currently seeing Dr. Norman Seigel here in Cherry Hill Inn. I have been on the Alpha Interferon (3x weekly) for over a year, with positive response. Although there are many side effects, the information about the diet and natural alternatives has helped combat them. I don’t know how long the positive effects will continue, however they indeed prove exactly what you point out in your editorial (Summer 97 Vol. V No.2). That the combination of orthodox and alternative medicine can be very powerful. I am enclosing a small donation.
Sincerely,
Richard
P.S. Keep up the good work.
Dear Susan,
Your kindness meant so much to me.
I really appreciate all that you have provided for me during my practicum. I’ve learned so much from you and knowing you has changed my life! I couldn’t ask for a better practicum experience by being at a place in line with my philosophy and belief system and greatly expanding my knowledge base. Thanks for your support and encouragement. As I’ve told you I want to volunteer at night (phone call basis) and hopefully can be more a part of the center when I leave Cephalon.
Love,
Sue :)
After numerous failed treatments for my Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia, I was sent home from the hospital with best wishes. Around that time, I learned of an experimental drug being tested at Dana Farber in Boston, MA. There was one spot left in the study and it was my last hope for treatment, but it would entail weekly hops to Boston from Lancaster, PA. Even if I could have afforded the flights to Boston, I was neutropenic and commercial travel was not an option for me. Angel Flight East was there to help!
In 2006 I found a lump in my leg, about the size of a dime in my upper thigh. I thought nothing of it but after 3 months it didn't go away. The fact it hadn't gone away began to alarm me. I decided I wanted to see my dermatologist for a biopsy. They gave me a biopsy and it came back negative so they told me to go home and not to worry about it. However, I knew something wasn't right and that it shouldn't be there. So, I called them and told them I wanted to schedule surgery and wanted it cut out. They laughed at me and said it wasn't necessary. I told them I didn't care what they thought, I wanted an appointment for surgery. They finally agreed.
When I share my story, people say, “gosh, you’re a miracle!” They can’t believe that I move so well on the tennis court (after two hip replacements) and feel so well (after three bouts of metastatic cervical cancer) and stay high-energy through the day. BeatCancer.org helped me through this life-threatening illness. Dr. Susan Silberstein showed me options: If I chose radiation, how would I cope with the side effects?
